Animals of Disney get the same - Lady - no parents at all. Nemo - only a father - Bambi - only a father - Aristocats kittens - only a mother, and so on.

Books - I've never read them before (hope to though ). But I believe they are pretty similar. If you are looking for books concerning AOGG Universe, there is a few Chronicles of Avonlea, and I read two books called "The Story Girl" and "The Golden Road" which are centered on people living on Prince Edward Island (some I can recall that might possibly be relations of the AOGG characters). Maybe they will interest you (:
