Not really a surprise as it was rumored since a long time, but "The Snow Queen" is in the work, and it will be a 2D animated film! Quote: The Snow Queen, an animated feature from Disney that appeared to fall into production limbo years ago, is apparently back in the works…and in hand-drawn animation, too! Based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson, The Snow Queen is speculated to have a 2013 release date, which would follow Winnie the Pooh in 2011 and continue the studio’s reported plans of releasing a new traditionally animated feature every two years. http://animatedviews.com/2009/disneys-s ... roduction/2013?? That makes a 4 year gap between Princess & The Frog and that one...This is WAY too much. (sorry, I don't consider the coming Winnie the Pooh to be an AAA animated film...) Especially because that would mean that film is only beginning pre-production. (usually it takes 3 to 4 years to make an animated film) Very surprising. That would mean almost the same gap that we've seen already (5 years since Home on the range) I would also prefer an animated film where animals are the main characters, we've seen enough humans as it is... I surely hope that P&TF will be a huge success, maybe this will boost them a little...Or that other companies will reconsider making traditional animated films too. Oh well, I suppose we can't complain too much, at least we know there is another 2D animated film in the making. Still reassuring. Maybe they'll unveil more projects if P&TF is a success.

I say as long as Disney is willing to schedule them, I'm willing to wait for more 2D goodness. While I have to agree Winne the Pooh doesn't seem like a really new project considering it's already an already well established franchise, but if they want to make one I guess that's their choice. Though if you consider Pixar's line up "The Snow Queen" wouldn't coincide with any projects we are currently aware of and maybe that's what Disney wants because it's looking like this Winnie the Pooh film will be competing with Cars 2 (Most likely not directly but is some sense as they are released the same year)

Will this mean they might revise a better re-telling of the Rooster Chanitcleer? I heard that was in animation limbo before Don Bluth made "Rock-A-Doodle".

It's even worse than I thought... Due to the lower-than-expected box office for Princess & The Frog, there are currently internal talks at Disney to decide whether Snow Queen will stay a 2D film or will move to a 3D project!!!Source : A Disney animator who went back from the Germany promotional, where the film "bombed" too. I can safely say this is a real source. http://www.disneycentralplaza.com/index.htm I still don't understand...For now the film is more profitable than any of the 3D films released from Disney (even if it's not grossing much more), and yet they want to stop 2D? That's...disgusting.

This is suprising, saw Steet's post earlier about the lower than expected box office revenues for the weekend but I just thought that Disney wouldnt base coming back with 2-D films off the success of just one of their new ones "The Princess and The Frog" Really thought it was the resurgence of 2-D films again

When you know like me how companies work, you're not surprised.

oh,crud ... .. I heard they cancelled King of the Elves too.. ( not really sure what that was about).. I don't get why they'd cancel Snow too.. I'd rather see it in CGI then cancelled.. now I don't feel so bad about spending ludricous amounts of money at the box office and snacks.. (whoever got the idea that 6 U.S Dollars for a bag of small popcorn was a good idea should be fired.. ).. P and Frog didn't do so bad at the box office 100 million is just behind Lilo and Stitch's 145 million.. has the movie been released internationally yet? I remember Brother Bear doing well overseas..

I didnt watch princess and the frog cause i aint that interested. i could watch it to help boost but thats 1 out of the million people they would like to boost. i would ANYTIME go see a movie of theirs if its animals. no matter what it is. i would love to see another disney animal movie in the traditional way. And watch it a few times after. i seen alot of disneys animal movies. ONLY animals. look at my collection all are animal based. (no Cinderella or princess stuff here..) To my point if Disney made their come back movie on animals i think ALOT more people would come to watch it. most likely cause it aint princesses which is considered for girls.. animals can bring guys and girls who dislike princesses. i beleive (not sure if this is true but on my thought) films like lionking,101 dalmatians, lady and the tramp and fox and hound and other classics Did 100 times more well then any princess one. though i may be wrong. Oki that was abig offtopic.. but you did mention it Quote: I would also prefer an animated film where animals are the main characters, we've seen enough humans as it is... But to the point.. again. They saying i got to wait till 2013 to hear the announcement of if their next movie is a animal one or not? then if it is i gotta wait a year or so to see it.. Meeh Disney why are they like this.. and Snow Queen? Ok it aint princess. but I dont like humans. Sure i like some human movie but if you look at my whole movie list i say.. 99% of em are animal based. (big animal lover, nuff so my film side is only on animals)

Quote: has the movie been released internationally yet? Yes, but not at the same time so it's difficult to have good numbers. But for now it has made as much as the US box office (around 100M$) which is more or less what was expected considering its US run. Quote: i would ANYTIME go see a movie of theirs if its animals. no matter what it is. Well then you're seriously mistaken, because the film is about FROGS. And an alligator and a firefly. They're only humans for about 20% of the film... That's another mistake from Disney marketing, they focus on their humans forms while the films does the opposite... Quote: films like lionking,101 dalmatians, lady and the tramp and fox and hound and other classics Did 100 times more well then any princess one. though i may be wrong. Depends : Cinderella, Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, The little mermaid...are among the films that had the highest box office.

Wow im mouse-brained aint i for not seeing that. Ok yea but im not a big fan of the frogs/alligator so forth genre. i would watch the movie when i can. just not in cinemas. But thats for princess and the frog. cause i hear its quite funny. but my point was i would love to see more movies like fox and hound, lady and tramp,101 dalmations, lion king. Ofcourse thats feline.canine which are my favorite type. but i dont like SOME human.. or little.. I mean i enjoyed Junglebook even with just that one human. But i bet anyone agrees if they brought out some movies of those full animal and canine/feline and i think they did afew mouse ones.. Though i may be thinking universal (shame on me for not knowing..) Since they were top rated. i mean you see in all the top animated movies or kids movies Lionking and Such are on the top. and on most fan tops are mostly Disney. and sometimes they show princess ones.. but i guess people may watch this if princess and frog wasnt named as it is. No guy would go watch it.. Ok some guys. but i think most males be turned away from the term 'princess' in the title.

well, the last feature to have animals in a fully 2-D enviroment was Home on the Range .. which had cows as the starring role.. though that film only made about 50 million.. and had mixed reviews.. and Brother Bear a few months before did o.k , but nowhere near the likes of Tarzan and Lilo and Stitch..
and I don't agree that animated movies that star Lions and Dogs are going to be Blockbusters Disney's the Wild nearly tanked at the box office...
and Disney's Dinosaur which was made a moderate amount at the box office back in 2000.. mainly got negative reviews for the weak story.. ( yes I know that was CG but still)..
also remember P and the Frog was inspired by the story the Frog Prince.. now your'e going to tell me that no guy's going to see animated movie with Princes's in it.. (human princes I mean)

steet wrote: Some news. The film is not moving to a CGI project...it's cancelled. http://blueskydisney.blogspot.com/2010/02/killing-of-queen-by-princess.htmlNow there is officially no other Disney 2D project, even in a rumor state. Great. (I'm not including Winnie...) Not even King of the Elves? Geez, I wish they'd take a chance already... seems they took the safe route with P&TF though, at least marketing-wise. Also, the Rapunzel movie has officially changed name to Tangled. o_O
