Personality:
Clarissa is a mare with the personality of a gentle soul. She has a very motherly disposition, a strong heart, and a fierce spirit that carries her on. She is stubborn at times, and will not stand to be thrown about by any other horses. But she is true to her gentleness, and is a very sweet mare. If tempted, she will go out of her way to protect the ones she loves and cares about. Clarissa has a calmness about her, but she does worry. The littlest things can have her fretting with anxiety. Sometimes she is very docile, especially towards stallions. Clarissa is most fond of foals, and often yearns for one of her own.

History:
The weather was volatile, rain often coming down in buckets, and the sky rumbling with resounding thunder with the occasional streak of lightening. A lone mare, weary and exhausted from traveling, was ready to give birth to the foal she carried in her womb. It was dark, the wind harsh and seemingly holding a chill. The mare dragged her tired body to a copse of pine trees and collapsed on the ground. Her breathing was heavy with labour, and she feared she was too weak to give birth to the foal she had been carrying for all those months. She had been running away, and she was about to give up with hope that she would ever be safe from the danger of the unborn foal's vicious father. But Cariño was not going to give up, for every ounce of her wanted to do all she could for her baby.
The mare, after many struggling, gave birth to a healthy foal. Complications unfortunately arose, and the mare, too weak and battered now to go on, took her last breath as her heart gave out. She died not knowing if her foal was safe, but knowing that she had done all she could for the little filly, in whom she named Clarissa, after her deceased dam.
As the storm ceased, leaving a damp chill in the air, the filly glanced around, blinking her big eyes at the new sights. She was aware that she was alone, but concern wasn't on her mind. She had thoughts of only taking in the world that was so new to her innocent eyes that had yet to see the beauty of the world. Her stomach rumbled with hunger, but Clarissa didn't know what to do. Her Mama lay so still behind her that she wondered if the mare would ever get up again. Perhaps she wouldn't.
But fate was kind to Clarissa. Before long, a stranger found her. He was a tall, dark stallion with gentle eyes that held compassion. Cariña had given birth to her foal near his heard, and he had smelled the mare on the wind. The stallion immediately took pity on the orphaned foal. Despite the foal not being sired by him, he didn't have the heart to leave her to die of some fateful death out in the wilderness. He knew his mate Esperanza, whom had just given birth to their foal, Spirit, would be more than willing to take the little filly under her wing.
Strider made the choice. He coaxed the little filly to stand, steadying her with his gentle muzzle. The filly wavered on her hooves as she struggled to stand. She fell once before trying again and making it to her feet. She took several steps on her shaky legs. Now having accomplished this feat, the filly followed the stallion. She felt weak from hunger, but she didn't want to be left behind. Clarissa felt safe and protected with the majestic-looking stallion who had so gently helped her to her feet. She wasn't going to leave his side. She was perhaps too afraid of what could happen to her if she were alone and defenseless.
In the distance, a rumble of thunder echoed through the night.

Years later, on a mild summer day, Clarissa remained with the Cimarron herd. She was a quiet mare who got along with most of her herd mates. Memories of her birth-mother had been replaced with Esperanza, whom had raised her next to her own foal. Clarissa had the fondest memories of running about with her 'older' brother, playing in the long prairie grass, or splashing about in the creeks. She'd always felt safe with Strider near by to protect his herd. But then a fatal accident took Strider's life, and Spirit thus took his father's place at a young age.
Clarissa never felt she much fit in the the Cimarron herd. Perhaps it was her past that was so dark to her that questions asked went unanswered. She often wondered about the night Strider found her as an orphaned foal. And always, she'd ask herself, "Who am I?"
Clarissa was never one to make decisions that would be foolish or rash, but she wished to leave the safety of the herd and find who she really was. Such a matter she couldn't take lightly, especially since she was only a small mare who was vulnerable on her own. If she went out alone, she would surely be the target of a hungry predator, or a lone stallion.
But her heart was torn. She could either stay in the safety of the Cimarron herd, or journey to find who she really was. Perhaps her destiny awaited her someplace else; she just had to find it.
