"Undeterrable Loyalty to your Comrades is critical in a battle..."
Golden-eye was captured by the Cavalry at a very young age, and was kept by the Colonel as a source of entertainment. Goldy loved it there, it was a community of military minds that kept things in order and dedicated themselves, which is the basis of what shaped Goldy's personality. Unfortunately, later on this would also become the basis of a few of Markus and Flame's jokes.
He was also used in battle, first off as a simple attack bird. Then he seemed to escalate into a mascot, and was respected by most of the horses at the fort. He would often tell tales of the battles he took part in, and even told the odd horror-campfire story. The foals absolutely loved it, and wouldn't dare go to sleep until he was finished. But, this would end shortly.
One day, the Colonel had taken him out into battle, Cavalry against the Cheyenne, Cherokee and the Lakotas. Goldy, for once, was left dazed after a Cavalryman got confused and hit him with a musket. He had flapped around lazily in the air for a few minutes, then flopped to the ground. He was confused, scared and concerned for his comrades. He had no idea what had happened.
Luckily, Atlas was taking part in his first battle, and found him before anyone could trample him over. He alerted the fellow warriors, who let Shadi handle the battered bird. She whispered softly to him, telling him that he would be taken to safety. Because he was confused, he believed Shadi was one of the girls from the fort, and willingly let her take him back to the village. He would find out afterwards that the Cavalry had lost, and that any horses that had survived had been shared between the three tribes.
His arrival got mixed results: horses were baffled, two-leggeds were interested. Golden-eye himself eventually realised he wasn't at the fort anymore, but couldn't help but be fascinated by the difference between his old home and his new one. He decided to stay eventually, and continued to bore (and excite) with his factual information on military formations and the like, and then eased up by telling battle stories to the foals.
Soon, life was almost the same as it was before, but Goldy still felt slightly homesick. He hoped his old family at the fort would forgive him for not being there, and that they would manage without him.
Despite his hopes, he still couldn't help but sneak out every now and again to try and meet up with the Cavalry again. This time though, he had told stories about both sides, and had managed to persuade most that the Lakotas weren't all bad. He even tolerated Paprika and Ricky's desire to run away for once. At the same time, he persuaded the Lakota horses that the Cavalry horses were also good horses too. His insight into both worlds had opened up most horses perspectives of the other, and Golden-eye made himself a bridge between two worlds.
Goldy spent the rest of his time hunting and fighting with his new mistress, Shadi, exchanging messages between the Tribes and the Cavalry, training other birds. Oh, and trying to tolerate some horse's odd sense of humor (not mentioning any names....Markus and Flame!)
